The Benefits of a Upside-Down Tomato Planter and Garden Sensor

Improved lawn and garden tools for the outdoor garden that make everything easier for the gardening aficionado are always being invented.  One of the hottest gardening tools that is currently experiencing rising popularity is a Topsy-Turvy tomato planter.  Using a Topsy-Turvy upside-down tomato planter allows tasty tomatoes to grow much easier, since  the plant is actually grown upside down.  Many upside down containers come with detailed instructions to make  growing your tomatoes very easy.  Hanging tomato planters that grow plants upright can also be found at your local home improvement store.

One advantage of a hanging tomato planter is that it enables gardeners to keep from kneeling and bending like they would for a traditionally grown tomato plant.  The advantage of a upside-down tomato planter goes past ergonomics though; this is a gardening tool that also permits people to grow tomatoes in small areas.  You will not need a large garden when you put this gardening tool to work.  The ability to grow delicious tomatoes in a hanging container extends from homes with a large yard to apartments with no yard.  A Topsy-Turvy hanging tomato planter can be put on a small patio in a sunny spot and grow tomatoes as yummy as those growing in a robust garden.

Another new gardening tool that is receiving rave reviews is the garden sensor.  Many people who really love their plants have begun using a garden sensor to know exactly what their plants require.   A garden sensor has two prongs that are placed into the ground where you are considering placing a plant or tree.  While the plant sensor stays in place for 24 hours, it acts to track things like the temperature, amount of sunlight and moisture in the soil.   After the 24 hour period is done, the garden sensor is then plugged into a computer where you are directed to the manufacturer’s website, which contains tips and information on what your plants need.  The guidelines the plant sensor has gathered will be displayed.  What you can learn from this is how to select the right plants for that particular area of your garden.   Also, a plant sensor can be used to help existing plants that may be suffering.  Using the plant sensor in this situation may alert you to deficiencies the plant is experiencing and guide you to correcting the problem.

What the plant sensor does not do is advise gardeners of whether or not a certain plant is best suited for a particular planting zone.  It also does not have the ability to determine the pH levels in dirt, nor can it save data once the data has been collected by the website.  As technology advances, it is expected that the plant sensor device will transform over time, allowing users to gain more information and save that which has been collected.

First-class garden hand tools should help to make gardening an easier task.  That’s exactly what these two unique devices accomplish.  Try out a Topsy-Turvy tomato planter or plant sensor in your garden this year and you will experience easier growing, without a doubt!

The Benefits Of A Cold Greenhouse

If, as a gardener, you have never owned or used a Greenhouse, I would recomend that you do so. Don’t be put off by the cost of green house kits or the cost of heating during the winter, since even a cold greenhouse can provide some great benefits. A cold greenhouse is really a technical term. It means that the greenhouse is not heated in winter. It is not cooled in summer, although you will find that shading it and opening windows and vents will help it from becoming to hot.

A cold greenhouse will save you money and enlarge the number of plants that you can grow successfully. Greenhouse gardening need not be expensive. Although it is not heated in winter, it will retain what heat the out of season sunshine provides for longer and will protect plants from cold winds.Hence the cold greenhouse will extend the growing seasin over that you can achieve outside; You can also grow plants for which the normal outdoor season is not long enough, such as melons and peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes.

Instead of going out and buying bedding plants, you can easily germinate and raise seeds in the cold greenhouse in large enough numbers that you will have plenty to sell or share with friends and neighbours.

Taking cuttings and raising them is often easier in the greenhouse, although many cuttings are better raised outdors in shaltered areas, as greenhouses do tend to become rather warm in the summer.

Sweet corn seed needs warmth to germinate (as do many other seed including tomatoes) so sowing them in a cold greenhouse helps no end. By getting an early start in the greenhouse you effectively extend the growing season. And remember, The sugar in sweet corn starts to change to starch as soon as it is harvested, so the sooner it is cooked the better. The traditional and established  way of raising early seeds on the windosill has some significant drawbacks. The problem is that the plants become impossibly ‘leggy’ before you are ready to put them outside. In the greenhouse this problem is solved since the ligh is more even.

So please give it a try. You will get so much more enjoyment from it just as I have, and your gardening abilities will be greatly extended. So build a greenhouse now.

A Greenhouse Lets You Carry On Gardening – Rain Or Shine

Gardening is one of the best hobbies I know. It gives you a gentle workout whenever you need it. By digging the ground, weeding and pruning, there is always something needing to be done. It is also an unrivalled stress and tension reliever. Gardening in the fresh air keeps you healthy, makes you look younger, and extends your life.

Whats more gardening can be a hobby for anyone. If you are confined to a wheelchair, then raised beds will let you grow and tend plants. Even if you cannot see well, then brightly coloured flowers with loads of scent will help. With a Greenhouse, you can enjoy the hobby all year round, and even in bad weather.

Watching a tomato grow from seed, and then savouring the taste of your own grown produce can not be beaten. Or, for that matter an apple picked from a tree raised from a cutting. Whilst you can do all this without a greenhouse, it is so much better with your own greenhouse. You will get even more satisfaction by building your own greenhouse

A greenhouse gives you a controlled environment, which should be free from pests and deseases. Therefore, raising plants from seeds is much easier. It also permits you to grow exotic plants, melons and grapes that would normally not survive in cooler climates. With some planning, it will give you vegetables throughout the year.

Keeping a greenhouse free from pests and diseases is of the paramount importance. Seeing your fresh produce decimated by pests or growing mold just days before you wanted to harvest it can be a really heartbreaking experience. Prevention is always better than cure and there are some things which will help to prevent most greenhouse problems.

Keeping everything clean is your first line of defense. You should remove and burn any plant material that shows signs of damage, white mold or fungus. If you have used secateurs to cut off the material, then dip them in disinfectant before using them on another plant, otherwise you could just spread the mould around. Sounds simple, but many people forget this and worry that the mould is indemic.

Good ventilation will help prevent a great many of the problems.Humidity control is also greatly beneficial to controlling some greenhouse problems. Parasitic controls can be introduced to solve some pest problems.

When you have pests or deseases, try not to introduce harsh chemicals to cure them. Many chemicals will transfer into the fruit and veg you are growing, and can cause health problems. Always look for organic or biological controls. Many cures are totally safe to use, such as yellow sticky cards hung in the greenhouse to catch flying pests that are greatly attracted to them. A less messy way of curing white fly, however is to introduce biological control in the form of a parasitic wasp.

But don’t be deterred from greenhouse gardening by pest and disease problems. By using simple preventative measures, and just employing good housekeeping practices, you should have little trouble with pests and diseases.
Unless you are aiming at achieving absolut maximum crops, you can usually just accept a few loses to pests and disease, and just live with the pests naturally.

Your Manual for a Starter Greenhouse

Many people are turning to newer portable garden greenhouses due to their good value. Regardless of whether building a starter greenhouse or buying one pre-assembled is in your plans, it is important either way to make certain you take into account your available space and how much cash you have to spend. These things may assist in the greenhouse decision-making process. You will also have to consider heating and ventilation requirements, and make certain there’s a handy supply of water. Once you have decided on size, it’s time to think about the materials to build your greenhouse, and what you’ll be raising in it.

You must then choose whether you want an attached or unattached greenhouse. With an attached greenhouse, you can enter directly from inside your house; a free standing greenhouse might be less convenient, because you will need to exit the house in order to get to it. Or you may opt for an indoor greenhouse if you have space constraints, or if it gets too cold in the wintertime in your region.

A classic barn style greenhouse is the most popular style of greenhouse. Prefabricated, movable greenhouses are fairly low-maintenance and not difficult to set up, so most people really like them. However if gardening with a greenhouse is something you’re choosing to do as more than just an occasional hobby, it makes sense to invest in a permanent building since you will get more durability in the long haul. There are many cheaper alternatives than the typical glass greenhouse seen in magazines and movies. A lot of pre-made greenhouses are made of aluminum framing with polycarbonate panels.

Those who enjoy greenhouse gardening will strongly recommend you to get the biggest greenhouse you can afford and have room for. Even though some are hesitant in doing this, a lot of them end up enlarging their small greenhouse, which makes it more costly in the long run. Larger sized greenhouses can frequently turn people off, as they might not want to commit to growing that many plants. But a more frequent problem that quite a few individuals face is the need to do away with excess plants when there is no more room for them because their small greenhouse is just too small.

You need to ensure that the plants you select for your garden greenhouse suit your level of gardening knowledge. It is necessary to be dedicated about tending to them, since you don’t want to have wasted all that energy in setting up your greenhouse. Another thing to keep in mind when erecting a greenhouse is that it is important to enquire as to which bylaws may pertain to your area, so that you don’t have any unpleasant surprises.

Growing Watercress – How to Grow Watercress

After you find out how beneficial growing watercress is, you will be happy to eat every one of vegetables just as Mom always said you should.

Watercress, also known as Nasturtium officinale, a part of the cabbage family. It is a vegetable with a zesty pepper flavor.

Perhaps you haven’t heard a lot regarding growing watercress, but unknown to most, it is one of the oldest vegetables known to human beings. It is called the original super food because of all the important health benefits watercress provides.

In 400 BC, Hippocrates, the father of medicine, was growing watercress in order to aid his patients. Soldiers from Greece were forced to eat watercress immediately before battle to increase their vigor. Emperors of Rome said it outdoors.

Watercress can be planted either in pots, or in the earth, as long as the soil stays soggy. Use a rich mix of moist soil, limestone, and organic compost for growing watercress.

As its name implies, it thrives in water.  This year round plant grows naturally along streams and creek beds. Naturally, the plant is slightly below shallow water, the base of the plant in the water, and the top half above the water. Not to worry, you do not have to go out and buy a lake or pond to grow your watercress on.

Watercress is a fast growing plant, and can easily be grown inside in plant pots which are placed carefully into a tray of shallow water. Keep the cress moist constantly when growing watercress. The trick is keeping the plants damp not soaked, because too much water can kill them. Watercress enjoys full sun, but grows faster not reach by direct sunlight. The ideal place for growing watercress is in partialshade.

As watercress should only be kept in the refrigerator for a week, leaves and stems should be cut shortly before use. When growing watercress, harvest leaves and stems before flowers begin to bloom.

How growing watercress benefits your health—

Watercress is full of nutrients named “photochemical”, a group of compounds that fight cancer cells. Within this superfood is potent antioxidants, which strengthens your body’s immune system, and helps prevent heart disease

Because of the large amounts of lutein found within watercress, this becomes an extra benefit of growing watercress. Lutein is widely believed to be an aid in stopping heart disease.

This ‘one of a kind’ vegetable is also loaded with vitamins, while being low in calories, with only 4 calories per cup. When watercress is eaten, the peppery heat of the leaves acts as a stimulant for your digestion

Watercress food ideas…

Try watercress in smoothies, to give it an extra kick Watercress can also be served in sandwiches (think egg & cress). The plant can be chopped small and mixed with creamed cheese and chives. Watercress can add flavor to most types of salad.

Soup flavor can be enhanced with the addition of watercress – chopped finely and cooked with veg or chicken stock. Try throwing in some watercress to your favourite stir fry or omelet.

You may have thought watercress was only the greenery on plates served in fancy restaurants. Actually, watercress is one of the main ingredients in V8 Vegetable Juice.

To sum up, it is definitely recommended to start growing watercress. Give it a try.

Greenhouse Watering during Vacations

Gardening in a cold greenhouse is something that every gardener in temperate weather regions should try. It will extend the range of plants you can grow and will also extend the growing season. Whilst a heated greenhouse will give you an even larger range, it is quite costly to run and, because it will use fuel to heat it, will not be good for the environment.

Cold Greenhouse Gardening is much like outdoor gardening. With one or two exceptions. You are totally in control of the amount, and frequency, of water your plants receive. Your watering system can be straigtforward and low tech, or more complex with high tech controllers. The traditional watering can, or hose-pipe is the simplest solution. If you don’t have a friend to water your plants when you are away on vacation, then an automatic watering system may be needed to maintain the health and vigour of your precious plants. It is worth considering a good watering system when you are planning to build your own greenhouse

The amateur greenhouse gardener will find a number of watering systems currently on the market, all of which do the job well. Two of the least expensive and most accessible are a system which sprays water over the whole greenhouse and can be put on a timer and a system which continually drip feeds water to your plants.

The sprinkler watering system.

Sprinkler systems can be sourced from a number of suppliers. Several suppliers make individual parts which you put together to get exactly what you want. This is a very good system and does the job admirably. However, it can be wasteful on water since you water the whole greenhouse rather than just the plants. It tends to be an all or nothing system, in which the whole area receives the same amount of water during the timed sessions, and individual plants may be overwatered.. More importantly, it can lead to uneven watering on tomatoes which causes the bottom of your tomatoes to go black and hard making them inedible.

The drip watering system.

A number of supplies produce drip watering systems. {A typical system consists of a water reservoir which feeds through increasingly smaller pipes until it reaches your plant where you have a small valve which allows you to control how often a drip goes onto you plant}. This means that you can vary the amount of water from plant to plant depending on their individual requirements. Since this sytem does not have a mains water feed, you will have to get a friend to fill the reservoirs when you are asay. So you just  need to tell them to keep the tanks full, and not worry about individual plants
This system is almost foolprof. It does not have any clcoks or controls to go wrong and is not subject to pressure changesfrom the tap. However, it does take time and patience to set up in the first place. It can become your permanent watering system, once set up, so you need never worry about keping your plants watered. You just top it up once a week or so, and forgrt the daily task of watering. Since it onlu places just the right amount of water for each plant, the system is good for water conservation.

As you tend to go away for your holidays in the midst of the fastest part of the growing season (and the hottest), then an automatic watering system become necessary.  Automatic watering systems are one of those greenhouse gardening tips that you should carefully consider You no longer need to depend upon friends and neighbours to tend your precious plants. If they forget just a single day, your plants caould be irrevocably damaged. Either of the systems discussed here will repay their cost very quickly once set up, and both will do a good job. Both systems will last a number of years provided you look after them.

Understanding Why You Should Use An Electric Greenhouse Heater

It is well known that greenhouse gardeners need a heat source for their greenhouse in order to extend the growing season or grow plants all year. Who wouldn’t want to be growing tomatoes in a greenhouse all year long!It is the preference of most greenhouse gardeners to use electric greenhouse heaters instead of paraffin heaters.

Electric heaters are very convenient and simple to use. If you wish to maintain the temperature, you will need thermostatic controls to do so and the heater will then do its job. Many greenhouse gardeners will buy a complete heat/AC system so their greenhouse will be temperature controlled in the winter and in the summer, providing the ultimate year round environment. If you are going to build your own greenhouse, it only makes sense to enjoy it year round.

Factors to Consider when Choosing an Electric Greenhouse Heater

When choosing an electric greenhouse heater it is best to select one that not only has a fan, but a variable speed fan with an option that allows for blowing non-heated air. The gardener can simply circulate and refresh the air in the greenhouse by blowing unheated air. It is important that your heater includes a fan so you can minimize cold spots and avoid fungus problems due to air that is stale.

Typically, a larger greenhouse will require more heating capacity for the electric greenhouse heater. Be certain the heater you select is a suitable size as if the heater is too small for the size of the greenhouse it may run continually, causing overheating and a possibly a fire. A good size electric greenhouse heater is a 2,000-3,000 watt for most home greenhouses; it it neither too small to give enough heat, nor too large that it would expect to damage the greenhouse plants.

Electric greenhouse heaters can be installed permanently or you can purchase portable models that are able to be removed from the greenhouse when not in use. Don’t have a power source near by? Learn about gas greenhouse heaters.

Whatever style of electric greenhouse heater you choose, be sure it is designed for greenhouse use to avoid water vs electricity issues.

Using A Cold Greenhouse To Raise Fruit And Veg

Growing vegetables in a cold greenhouse – particularly those vegetables traditionally grown in warmer climes such as peppers, chilli, tomatoes, melons and cucumbers is really easy. The shelter provided by the cold greenhouses provide a long enough (and warm enough) season to successfully grow and ripen these vegetables and fruits. Because of the freshness and the lack of chemicals used, your own produced fruit and veg always tastes that mucg better than those bought in the stores. You are also doing your bit for the environment by not consumung all those air miles in the purchase chain. Especially if you practice organic greenhouse gardening techniques.

A heated greenhouse is great, but costs a great deal to fuel and also requires specialised ventilation systems to ensure a free flow of air and to ensure it does not everheat. A well situated cold greenhouse can provide a lot of sheler and aditional heat in early spring, allowing you to sow seed earlier and get your crops growing earlier. It will also prolong the growing season by providing extra shelter from those cold winds in the autumn. Whats more, if you double (or even triple) insulate it during the winter you should be able to overwinter plants which are marginally frost tender. You will get much more enjoyment from your greenhouse gardening

What to Grow in a cool Greenhouse

Your main crops to grow will be the previously mentioned traditional cold greenhouse summer crops. Don’t forget that you can also grow high quality low cost fruit crops in the cold greenhouse. By growing tight against the walls or acroos the roof, most fruit crops take little space. Some, however, like grape vines may exclude light during summer. This should not be a problem, since during summer you are often shading the greenhouse to keep it cooler.

Because it is that much warmer inside the greenhouse than outside, it is possible to grow early vegetables in it, lettuce and radish come to mind. The cold greenhouse is also good for raising plants from seed, for planting out later. You need to bear in mind the earliest date at which the soil will be warm enough to plant out, before deciding to sow seed in the greenhouse. There is no point in sowing too early. You will only end up with leggy, soft plants which will be open to attack from pests and diseases.

The cold greenhouse is also great for growing many of the herbs from the mediteranean countries. These can be grown in pots so that when the weather is warm enough outside, you can put the pots by the kitchen door to provide for easy harvesting when you want to use them.

Many outdoor vegetables can be given an early start by raising small plants from seed in the greenhouse, and then planting out when large enough, and the weather is suitable. Leeks and Sweetcorn should both be grown in 3″ pots until their girth is the size of a pencil, then plant them out. You will save the task of thinning out in your vegetable beds, and will also vave no gaps due to poor germination.

Many flowering and foliage plants can be raised from seed in the cool greenhouse. Both bedding plants and indoor plants can be inexpensively produced this way. Store bought plants will cost you perhaps 100 times more. That in itself makes the cool greenhouse a viable proposition.

Owning and using a cold greenhouse is so satisfying that once you have tried one, you will never want to be without it.

Raised Garden Beds with a Raised Bed Kit

A raised garden bed has a number of advantages for the average gardener. There are a whole host of reasons to choose raised garden beds over traditional garden beds.

A raised garden bed uses the dirt you choose to put in it, so many soil problems of the past just go away with a raised garden.  You can use any type of potting soil mix or even a soilless mix if you want, reducing the presence of many soil diseases and pests.A raised bed kit also makes the management of moisture levels and water drainage much easier.Without traffic in the bed to compact the soil, the overall soil structure is better, with better aeration and water retention and drainage are both improved as well.  And you can use intensive gardening techniques like Square Foot gardening to boost the yields you get from your vegetable plantings.Putting you plants closer together in a bed will boost yields since there is no path, keep the number of weeds down, and keep the water consumption down as well.

But you the gardener can enjoy gardening more with a raised bed kit as well.A raised bed garden is easier to access, and some models put the bed waist high so you can easily garden even with a bad back or other medical problems.Another great thing about raised beds is that you can take advantage of spaces that were out of the question before, like an apartment balcony or right outside the kitchen door on the patio.  One attractive way raised bed solution is a cedar raised beds, which not only lasts a long time but has an attractive knotty appearance.

The easiest way to get a raised bed is to buy one of the raised garden kits.  But, for the do it yourself gardener, it is not that difficult to build a raised garden bed from the raw lumber.  The most difficult part is for many gardeners is getting the corners square, and for that there are raised bed brackets available from many sources.  Choose corners that are the right height for your lumber, and note that there are even corners available that let you create shapes other that simple rectangles with angles other than ninety degrees.

So, in conclusion, a raised bed garden can be a great thing for both the garden and the gardener.

The Window Sill Herb Garden

The Window Sill Herb Garden

With a window sill herb garden just outside you kitchen, for example, you will be adding color, warmth and fragrance to your home. There can be many reasons why someone might prefer to grow their herb garden by their window rather than in the ground.  A big reason is comfort. With a garden on your windowsill, you won’t have to deal with the elements of the changing seasons and will have fresh herbs all year long.

While you can grow almost any type of herbal plant in a windowsill herb garden, there are some that are more suited to this method than others. Plants like oregano are ideal because it is compact in size and has a truly wonderful flavor. Rosemary and basil are also a great fit for your indoor garden. Herbs can serve different purposes. Some, like rosemary, can repel pests and fungus while others may flower and bring beauty, provide wonderful taste to your dishes, or have medicinal uses.

These herbal plants will invariably do best on windowsills that face south or southeast, since, for northern hemisphere locations, that is the direction of greatest sunlight. Most plants prefer maximum sunlight for growth and health and herbal plants are no different. Herbal plants prefer at least five hours of sunlight per day. Also, remember to keep them from enduring drafts, especially during the cooler winter months.

You can grow from seed if you like, but many people find it advantageous to start by purchasing seedlings in pots which are 6-12″ deep. And don’t forget herb garden kits! They come complete, having everything you need: the containers, plants in the form of seedlings (frequently) and complete instructions on how to nurture and grow them.

While it’s fairly easy to care for these plants, you do need to be aware of their gestation periods as well as the ideal times to prune their leaves for drying, storing, or cooking. Some plants will also overtake others if you don’t tend to them and prune them back on a regular basis. You want your window sill herb garden to look as though it belongs there in the windowsill, so there is some measure of attention that they will require from you.

Be careful about the amount of water you give your herbal plants. You must always keep a proper balance between wet and dry, not flooding and not parching. They don’t like soggy roots so don’t let the soil stay damp constantly If your new kit is already in flower, go slowly. Don’t jump in and cut them back right away. Give them time to acclimatize to their new environment. And if you live in an apartment or someplace where there just isn’t enough natural light, don’t despair, just get an artifical light source and put it on a timer. Generally, your plants will thrive under this kind of light, but it’s always good to check with the nursery or kit maker to be sure.

Having your own windowsill herb garden is an obvious advantage to you if you love to cook, as there is nothing better than having fresh herbs to use in your food preparations. Growing your own herb garden and having it right there where you can see and smell it’s wonders is a great thing, and it will reward you in many ways adding life and beauty to you and to your home.

Transplanting Roses the Proper Way

Instead of stressing about moving roses from one location to another, we want to show you some simple steps that would make the process easy and successful.  Transplanting the rose bush is always a bit scary but if you find yourself in a position of needing to move the plants, perhaps to get better sunlight or because of moving to a new home, do not stress.

For roses to grow strong with magnificent blooms they need the right rosebush care and, they need about six hours of direct plus five hours of indirect sunlight daily.  Therefore, to be sure the roses are healthy and strong, they may need to be moved if they were not planted correctly the first time.

One of the first considerations when transplanting roses or rose planting is the soil.  In addition to making the hole where the bush would be moved to large enough for the root ball, you also want to make sure the soil is rich in nutrients needed by roses.  Then for the healthiest bushes, adding a little bit of compost or bone meal to the bottom of the new hole would be ideal.  Next, the day prior to moving the roses, make sure you water them extremely well and once the bush is pulled out of the ground on the day you move it, soak burlap or a cloth with water, wrapping it around the root ball to keep it moist.  Otherwise, exposure of the root ball would cause damage or the entire plant to die.

Again, if you water the rose bushes the day before you move them then the root ball should be hydrated so no damage is done.  Keep in mind, the process of transplanting roses could result in some bushes not making it.  While sad, the weaker bushes would likely have a more difficult time surviving than the healthier bushes.  Along with water, you also need to get the hole ready.  Of course, the new hole has to be large enough to accommodate the root ball and for giving the roses the best chance of survival and a means to thrive, you might consider putting bone meal and compost in the hole before the bush goes in.

Transplanting roses requires little work and as far as pruning, this would not need to be done until down the road.  When you dig up the original rose bush, we also suggest that you dig up as much of the root ball that you can and then place carefully into the new hole.  Once the bushes are transplanted, there is a chance that some pruning might be required.  For this, simply watch for damage of any portion of the bush dying.

As you set the rose bushes into the soil, make sure the top of the bushes have adequate support so blooms can grow big and strong.  If for any reason, the plant starts to look wilted or weak after being moved, you may need to cut the top portion back.  Then, when placing the bud union in the ground when transplanting roses, always keep it about two inches above the rim of the hole.  Over the following week as the bushes are watered, the soil will naturally start to settle and along with the soil, the bud union would fall into place.  At that time, push soil around the plant’s base, covering the roots and giving the rose bush support at the bottom.

While you might not have the opportunity of choosing the time of year for transplanting roses, if possible, move them when they are dormant, a time when they are not growing.  This way, risk of the rose bush going into shock is limited.

Therefore, if possible, try to move your roses when they are dormant, giving you strong, healthy bushes.  As long as the bushes have adequate sunlight, good soil, the proper size hole, good water, and support, the process of transplanting roses should not be overly difficult.

Plant Life Cycle Diagram – A Quick Read

When researching indoor and outdoor plants, being aware of their life cycle is important. A plant life cycle diagram can assist you in knowing when your plant may flower, when you can breed your plant, and when certain types of plants should be watered or dehydrated. By knowing the life cycle of your plant, you can ensure its longevity. In the case of rare or expensive plants, this can help to protect your investment.

A good plant life cycle diagram will include several aspects. First, it will include all stages of a plant’s life, from the creation of the seed to death. If the plant life cycle diagram is missing any stage of the development of the plant you are investigating, your chances of successfully caring for or breeding your plant will be greatly diminished.

The most simplistic stages of a plant’s life cycle include the seeds phase, germination phase, the seedling phase, the vegetative phase, the flowering stage and the pollination stagee and death. Depending on the type of specimen that you are learning about, this cycle may vary.

contains, quite a few diagrams are not linear.|Due to the nature of a plant life cycle diagram, it is unusual that the diagram itself will be linear.] Expect a circular chart that shows how seeds are produced within the middle of the life span of a specimen. As seeds occur during the flowering or pollination phase of the plant’s life cycle, you should be able to see when the plant seeds. This is particularly vital for those planning to breed species such as mints. Cycles will vary depending on the reproductive cycle of the species. As many plants can reproduce through replication or seeding, not all plant life cycle diagrams will be equal. As a rule, the more rare or exotic a specimen is, the more detailed its diagram will be to show the full cycle of the plant.

If you are intending to breed your plants, you will want to keep the relevant data handy. Your primary focus in the plant life cycle diagram will be on the pollination, flowering and seeding of your type of plant. All aspects of this, ranging from required watering changes, temperature changes and condition changes to promote reproduction is the most important.

For those who are just tending plants, you should be aware of the reproductive cycle of your species, as their upkeep tends to change during this time of their life|period of life]. If you are properly caring for your plant, the reproductive cycle of your specimen will be extended. This usually results in longer and more frequent blooming periods.

Bamboo Plants – A Closer Look

Bamboo plants are among the world’s most useful and versatile plant. Unlike trees, bamboo grows at an astonishing rate of up to 2 inches per hour. This makes it the world’s quickest growing plant. In some cases, the bamboo plant can grow up to 4 meters in a day.

Unlike many would believe, bamboo plants are not trees. In fact, they are evergreen grasses. These grasses fall into 91 different genera, with over 1,000 species currently known. As different species can be used for different things, this variety helps to ensure the lasting survival of this plant.

This fast growing rate makes bamboo plants invaluable in eastern regions such as India, China and Japan. As the bamboo plants can be used as food, wood and fuel, the fast growing rate makes this renewable resource a cornerstone of those societies. As bamboo, when properly treated, can be extremely durable and long lasting, it provides an easy solution to many problems.

One of the well known uses of bamboo plants is their cultivation as building materials. In construction, bamboo can create massive, secure scaffoldings, provide a base wood over slower growing trees, and provide ornamental value to both the interior and exterior of buildings. Other uses of bamboo wood include tools such as durable cutting boards, chop sticks, tables and other pieces of furniture as well as components in popular games such as go.

When bamboo plants are just sprouting, the shoots can be consumed from many different varieties. However, not all types of bamboo shoots should be eaten. The giant bamboo, as an example, contains cyanide within the shoots. Cyanide can be deadly to humans. Many types of animals survive by eating bamboo. Most notably is the panda, which only eats bamboo stalks and leaves.

Although bamboo serves quite a few purposes in society, bamboo plants do not come without problems. Still unknown why, bamboo plants tend to have mass flowering and fruiting seasons. This is most notable in the Bay of Bengal, where the bamboo plants bloom once every 30 to 35 years. This mass blooming and fruiting cases severe consequences to human populations nearby. As the fruit falls to the ground, rats gather in mass. As the rats gather in mass, they [carry disease with them and cause famine]. This can cause many human deaths, as there is not much that can be done to stop the fruiting once it has begun. There is not much that can be done, as they cannot be simply destroyed to prevent the rat swarms.

Bamboo is a hardy plant and can grow in many areas across the globe. They are most commonly found in East Asia, although they can grow in sub-Saharan Africa, North and South America. Bamboo does not survive in Europe, North Africa, western Asia, Canada and Antarctica.

When asking the issue of a way to grow accord grapes, there truly are many different things to consider, all of which are significant.  Making one mistake can imply the difference between success and failure, so be sure you know everything there is to know about this grape before you begin growing.

Keeping it Natural with Organic Rose Gardening

Instead of envying your neighbor’s rose garden, you too can grow healthy plants with magnificent blooms, rich in color and sweet fragrance.  Most people think that organic rose gardening takes too much time and effort but in truth, you can have a gorgeous garden with little help simply by knowing how.  Roses have been the number one flower throughout the world’s existence, grown naturally without modern day chemicals.  If you love roses and want to do what you can to promote a healthy environment, you can simply by getting involved with rose planting naturally.

Nature has created incredible flowers and trees with nutrients being provided by soil, water, and sun.  One of the most important aspects of rose planting is by making sure you use rich soil and when watering, you want to make sure you deep water so roots low in the ground are being provided with moisture.  With this, your rose garden would be stunning and healthy.

Roses are unique in that many phases of growing happen naturally.  For instance, photosynthesis is a process in which leaves change because of the sun’s energy and water.  Then, the soil is loaded with bacteria, fungus, nematodes, and other microorganisms that help to break down dead leaves, stems, and blooms.  All of this works to create rich soil, which in turn, promotes beautiful rose bushes.  With organic rose growing, you want to avoid chemicals, which kill the microorganisms that your garden needs.

Chemicals are not just dangerous but they are also addictive to roses.  This means when transplanting roses or starting a new garden, you want to avoid chemicals at all costs.  Instead, you would use only homemade organic products or you could purchase a variety of commercial products now being offered on the market.  Best of all, the cost associated with organic rose gardening is far less than you would imagine.  Comparing cost of using chemicals versus of growing plants without chemicals is quite interesting.

Remember, that rose bush care will require will require rich soil.  Rather than spend a ton of money to prepare the soil, you might consider creating your own compost pile.  Find a spot out in the yard and then begin to pile on scraps such as food, old newspapers, grass clippings, dog waste, and anything that you would normally toss out that can decay.  Over time, the compost pile would be turned to help with the decay process.  When ready, compost would be added to the garden, which improves the soil’s quality.

Another aspect of organic rose gardening has to do with pests, which love roses.  However, in keeping with organic growing, you need to rid the plants of pests using only natural products, no harsh chemicals.  You see, many insects such as wasps and ladybugs are actually beneficial to the garden so if chemicals are used, then good insects are killed along with bad insets.  You also need certain creatures in the rose garden to include snakes, lizards, frogs, and birds, which help by keeping the invasion of grubs and worms at bay.  Roses are prone to some bad insects so if you find you have a problem, simply use homemade remedies or you could purchase organic products at your local gardening center or nursery.

Organic rose gardening is not complicated or expensive, as you might imagine.  Just remember that whenever your are planting your roses to use rich soil, water the roses deep, give the roses bushes plenty of sunshine, and use only natural products or remedies.  As the rose bushes grow, you will see large, colorful blooms that would make you the talk of the town.  In fact, growing roses organically will provide you with plants that live longer than roses treated with chemicals.

Now that you have prepared your soil, it time to plant your organic tomato seedlings.  One.  If you are beginning tomatoes from seed, make efforts to give the seeds room to branch out.  Crowding sprouts inhibit their growth, so transplant them as quickly as they get their first leaves and move them into 4″ pots about 2 weeks after that.  2.

Tomato seedlings will need either robust, direct daylight or 14-18 hours under grow lights.  Plant your tomatoes outside in the sunniest part of your vegetable plot.  Three.  Dig a hole twice the dimensions of the pot and bury tomato plants deeper than they come in the pot, all of the way up to a few top leaves.  One of the most vital parts of caring for your organic tomatoes is understanding how much water do organic tomato plants need.

Water deeply and slowly – When watering tomatoes make sure that you go slow and easy.  Employ a drip hose or different types of drip irrigation to supply water to your tomato plants slowly.  Two.  Water continually.

Dependent on how hot it is and if the plant is growing.  Confirm to water your tomato plants at least each 2 – three days at the height of summer.  If it rains, count that rain as watering.  Three.  Water at the roots – When watering tomatoes, make sure you get the water to the roots.

If you water from above this can cause disease and pests to attack the plants.  Watering tomato plants from above also encourages early evaporation and pointlessly wastes water.

Hydroponics Nutrient Formula You Can Make At Home

You can create your own hydroponics nutrient formula to grow hydroponic plants, even if you have no previous experience. As fun as the plant growing process is, this is nearly as good. There are various types of these nutrients you may create. Understand that you need to do some research so you can find out what the right ingredients are and how you can mix them into the best hydroponic nutrients for your plants.

The benefits of preparing your own hydroponics nutrient formula are numerous. The greatest benefit is that the solution that you produce will be entirely organic. As a result, your plants will get no inorganic impurities. There’s no way to know exactly what you’re feeding your plants when you give them store-purchased nutrient mixtures. You may be one of those people who check the ingredients in everything you buy, but you don’t know the source of the ingredients or whether or not they are pure. When you make your own hydroponics nutrient formula there is no doubt in your mind about what is being fed to your plants.

There are many reasons to use your own hydroponics nutrient formula and one is that you can control exactly how the plant will grow by matching the nutrients to their needs. You will also be able to optimize your plants’ development by preparing mixtures with the appropriate nutrients for your zone and area. The growth of the plant might be improved based on such factors, however it’s difficult to know for sure. Yet you can easily tinker with your hydroponics nutrient formula since you control everything that goes into them.

While many companies warranty their brand of mixture, you might be able to find a better solution to meet your needs. There is nothing better than intervention by a human in the process of growing, and by controlling the nutrients your plants will become more your own.

There are a lot of different things you can do while your plants are growing that will make them unique to you, but using a homemade hydroponics nutrient formula will be the most effective in terms of growth. Regardless of whether you have lots of experience with hydroponic gardening or none at all, putting together hydroponic materials is an easy process. You merely must perform the research, spend the time, and locate a base formula you think will work for your plants.

Global Warming And Our Future

There is no doubt that the earth’s climate is constantly changing.  Some people feel that it is part of the normal cycle of events on this planet.  Yet, most scientists agree that there are drastic changes occurring that are due to unnatural global warming.

Free Energy

The weather is getting decidedly warmer.  For the most part, the United States has already warmed up some.  In some places, the average rise in temperature is around four degrees Fahrenheit.  However, all the states show some degree of warming.

The first and second warmest years on record were 1998 and 2006, respectively.

Celebrities Weigh In On Global Warming

Celebrities are putting their fame to use by calling attention to the subject of global warming.  Famous people in the entertainment industry are using their knowledge of film-making to create documentaries about global warming.  Others are simply using their influence to make a statement.

In fact, every year from the first to the second warmest years, ranked within the warmest 25 years in the US.  In 2006, the annual average temperature was 55 degrees Fahrenheit.  Recent warm years point to a climate change being brought on by global warming.

Climate changes due to global warming can be seen in the prevalence of drought.  Years are becoming drier in recent decades due to global warming.  This is caused by the heat that is building up around the earth’s surface.  Excessive evaporation intensifies drought even more during the spring and fall.

The Cheapest Solar Panels

Global warming has upped the level of drought.  A major drought in the US lasted from 1999-2002.  There were only two other droughts in the last forty years that were so widespread and devastating.  Crops were damaged or would not grow at all, thus shortening the food supply.

Leonardo DiCaprio is actually very involved with the movement to stop global warming.  He has a website devoted to the topic.  On it, you can take a look at two films DiCaprio has worked on, with others.  One is called Water Planet and the other is simply Global Warming.

The foundation also addressed the central themes of global warming such as greenhouse gases and fossil fuels.  Now, DiCaprio has worked on a documentary about global warming about earth’s 11th hour, which details the problems and innovative solutions.

Other actors are getting involved in the stop global warming movement, too.  Brad Pitt is the narrator of a series on green architecture.  The shows discuss ways to build that will help the environment.

Bean Plant Growth – A Closer Look

For those wanting information on a garden, knowing the full cycle of bean plant growth can allow you to take full advantage of the bean growing season, optimizing the volume of crop you get for the effort that you invest in. All types of beans, ranging from the black eyed pea to chick peas, are a solid addition to any diet. High in protein, the bean is one of the base parts in a vegetarian’s diet, as well as an excellent side dish for those with a preference for meat.

If you are building a bean garden, the first stage of bean plant growth is the seed. While these seeds may be slightly more expensive, the overall increase of bean plants growth is worth the investment, especially if you intend on having a larger garden.

To maximize bean plant growth, planting should be done when the temperature drops no lower than 61 degrees F or 16 degrees C. If the temperature drops below this level, your plants will not germinate, and may die.

After planting your seeds, the time it takes for the plant to hit the seedling stage ranges from three to approximately forty days, with the average being eleven days. A seedling is a very young plant that has just started to crack the surface of the dirt. This phase of the bean plant growth cycle is vital, as a healthy seedling will mature into a more productive plant. If your beans are planted too early, your crops will suffer and the amount of crop gained later in the cycle will be smaller.

Once your crops are planted and have begun to crack the top soil, it takes an average of at least fifty days for your plant to create pods and be ripe for harvest. This means that there is realistically only one grow cycle for beans in a year. Planting of beans should occur no earlier than march to ensure that your plants have had adequate time to grow during the season before fall frosts strike. Frost can serious harm bean plant growth, and care should be taken to avoid this. In colder environments, this can be tricky, as the time required for bean plant growth is linked to when frosts end and start.

The bean plant is an annual plant, which means that it can renew itself for at least three growing seasons. However, many gardeners will completely till the soil, killing the old bean plants and planting new each season to ensure that the bean plant growth cycle avoids frost from damaging their crops.

Food Inc. The Movie

Watch Trailer
In “Food, Inc.,” filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation’s food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that’s been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government’s regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation’s food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, insecticide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won’t go bad, but we also have new strains of e coli–the harmful bacteria that cause illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults Featuring interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), Michael Pollan (The Omnivore’s Dilemma) along with forward thinking social entrepreneurs like Stonyfield Farms’ Gary Hirschberg and Polyface Farms’ Joe Salatin, “Food, Inc.” reveals surprising–and often shocking truths–about what we eat, how it’s produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here.

Survival Knives: Purpose and Different Uses

A Survival Knife is one of the most important single item of your essential survival gear.  Besides the ability to create a  shelter and  a fire,  your first actions should be towards building a shelter and starting a fire, unless you have a first aid situation.  Shelter is protection from the elements and fire gives you warmth, comfort, and the ability to cook and purify water.
With a good knife you can make just about anything you need to live. With this in mind, your selection of a survival knife should be based on solid construction, workmanship, proper materials, and functionality.

When choosing survival knives for the survival gear catalog, consider the quality and functionality and not just how it looks.

Anyone who has ever spent quality time in the outdoors will understand that his survival knife is one of his best friends and the most closely guarded of his survival gear. Like a good friend, his survival knife should always be faithful.

How to Choose Survival Knives

The best survival knives are versatile in a variety of things. Common sense tells us that bulk and weight may be something to consider with any survival gear.

Many experienced survivalist believe that the ideal survival knife blade length is somewhere between four and six inches. This size blade offers good mix of control and size. Larger blades may be overkill and merely adds to the weight of the survival gear that you are carrying.

If a larger survival blade is needed then you would probably be better off packing a machete, axe, hatchet, or tomahawk.. In any case, you would be wise to carry a regular sized survival knife.

In addition to a survival knife with about a 5-inch blade, I like to carry a multi-tool (my favorite is the Leatherman) that has a smaller folding blade. This blade comes in handy for finer detail work that would be too cumbersome for the large knife.

If you DO need a larger blade knife of some sort, it could be helpful by adding an ax or a hatchet to your pack.

Survival Knives Different Blade Types

There are two main types of knife blades that the survivor need concern himself with, namely smooth and serrated. Serrated survival knife blades do well at cutting synthetic materials, clothing, and flesh. For self defense and paramedics, etc, serrated edges are a good choice.

A drawback to serrated cutting edges is that they are difficult to sharpen properly in the field. This is certainly a major drawback in a survival situation where maintaining a keen edge during hard use is vitally important. In addition, serrated knives do not have an efficient blade for chopping and carving.

For most survival situations, a plain smooth edged blade is the blade of choice. Such a blade is useful for cutting, carving, and chopping. Though it may not slice through nylon webbing, clothing, or flesh as efficiently as a serrated blade, the straight bladed knives will still make short work of these materials.

The added advantage of the regular blade is that you can sharpen your survival knife on a rock or piece of concrete whereas the serrated blade generally needs a special sharpening device and technique.

On the back of many survival knives are a saw meant for sawing through metal or wood. In too many cases, as in the Rambo type knives, these saws typically do not perform well. If you require a small saw in your survival gear you would do well to add a tool specifically designed for this rather than use your knife for this purpose.

The Thickness of Knife Blade

The best survival knife will have a blade thickness of between 5/32 and 8/32 of an inch. Thinner blades becomes too flexible and with thicker blades, it is more difficult to do the finer work.

It is important that the tip of the knife maintains its strength, as this is a likely area the knife is likely to fail.

Survival Knives Material Types

High quality survival knives uses two main types of steel

* Stainless Steel knife blades work especially well in wet environments because they are rust resistant. They require less care than the carbon steel knives. Drawbacks to using stainless steel in knives is that they tend to be more expensive, are more difficult to sharpen, and may not hold an edge as well.
* Carbon Steel knife blades will rust if not used regularly or coated. Many feel carbon bladed knives hold an edge better than their stainless steel counterparts.

Tang Survival Knives

When you are looking at a survival knife, with a good knife, the steel running all the way to the end of the handle.  This kind of construction is known in the knife world as “full tang” or “narrow tang”.You want the metal part of your knife to be called narrow tang or full tang.

* Full tang survival knives are made so that the blade merges into the handle. Usually two slabs of material are attached to both sides of the metal.
* Narrow tang survival knives is where the steel is narrower and is surrounded completedly by the handle.  A handle is then attached over the narrower piece of the knife.

Cheap survival knives are often made so that the metal blade is separate from the handle. The weak point on these badly made knives is where the blade and handle are bolted and glued together. Avoid a cheap knife, but it is best to get full tang or narrow tang models.

Survival knives, there are thousands on the market and many are good quality products and are sold in military surplus stores. When choosing the best survival knife for your needs you make certain you do not skimp.  Just remember, once in the field the knife you carry with you will be the only survival knife you have on hand. Pick a survival knife that you can rely on, is well made, is strong enough for rough field use, will serve you well for years to come, and is the best you can afford. In the end, your life may depend on it.

Survival Food Storage: 10 Tips In Protecting Your Food Supply

10 Tips In Protecting Your Food Supply

One.  The first survival food storage secret is to learn to garden and use whatever space you have available.  From a back yard area, raised beds, container gardens on a deck or small herb pots in the kitchen window, folk can grow more than they suspect with a little creativity and effort.  Use edible landscaping for plants that are ornamental as well as that provide food.  Need a few shade trees?  Why not use fruit or nut trees – they will supply shade as well as food.

Two.  Learn to ‘put up’ food – canning, food dehydrating and other methods are easier than ever with modern gadgetry designed to save food.  It requires a minimal effort – but on a kitchen counter you can dry enough herbs for a year ; you can make real powdered and flaked pepper, garlic and onion.

Three.  Next survival food storage  secret is if you freeze food, be sure you’ve a means to keep it going in a crisis.  If the electricity goes off you don’t want to lose a year’s supply of food!  Have a generator and fuel, get a propane refrigerator, have some way of keeping that food cold.  Putting food aside is only one part of increasing your food supply – storing it safely is the other issue.

Four.  Always be discreet.  Don’t brag about your food supply and don’t spread the gospel you have half a year of food in your basement.  If you do, and there is a crisis, you may be overrun with folks who know you have lots stocked away.  Are you then prepared to protect your food supply?

Five.  Storage a problem? Use areas most do not think about.  The pantry is good for many things but if you’re putting up lots of jars of spaghetti sauce, preserves, soups and other sauces you’re going to need room.  Have a protected corner of the basement up off the ground ( enough that a wet floor won’t damage the food ).

Six.  Here is another survival food storage tip.  Together with your food supply have a way to prepare food including water, grill and gas/wood/charcoal, for example.  If a tempest knocks an area down for 2-3 weeks be in a position to rely on your own resources for those 2-3 weeks.  Have available not only prerequisite items but a few luxury items too.  These could include a little candy, or cookies or something that just makes things a touch more like home.

Seven.  Do not forget storing personal cleanliness items – you can make a ‘composting toilet’ from free plans online having this available with sawdust or shavings, toilet paper and other survival gear can greatly increase the comfort in an emergency.

Eight.  Don’t rely on the government helping – or on folks being friendly.  A disastrous situation such as New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina showed the government can’t handle it – people have got to be in a position to rely on themselves.  Prepare and have plans in place for tornado, fire, emergency evacuation and sheltering in place ( being limited to home ).  Remember a train derailment or other issues can change things in a hurry! Practice that escape.  You have 10 minutes- what do you grab?  Hesitating can be deadly having a plan can suggest survival.

Nine.  Be ready to cook from nothing, make bread and do other abilities to get through if you had to.  If you’ve got the food stocked up it doesn’t do any good if you can not use it.  If you depend on mixes make your own mixes in Ziploc bags that seal firmly – label with a marker right on the bag with how much liquid, egg and oil to add.  In a pinch, that bag can be the bowl – simply put wet ingredients in and mix, then tip into a baking pan.  Experiment with your griddle to make things before you have to.

Ten.  Having the ability to hunt and fish can mean having a continual food supply.  Having fishing gear and hunting supplies can imply the difference between eating or not.  In the depression some spoke of having a tiny dog that would go through culverts and flush out rabbits while the enormous dog at the other end dispatched the rabbit as it ran out.  Sporting?  Maybe notbut if it comes to eating or not, how ethical will you be after not eating for four days?

Get prepared now.  Work on getting things growing, on learning the abilities you have to in order to survive.  When the public food supply is interrupted it’ll be too late.

You can have plenty of seeds for years to come with heirloom seeds, and learn about other essential survival gear.

Survival Living Imminent In USA

Who would of thought that survival living would be a reality in America?

Americans are spoiled.  We have so many choices at the grocer that it is outside the imagination that food won’t be there.  Although there are plenty of right here in the united states who retire to bed hungry on a constant basis, the true food deficits which have sparked riots in other countries have so far escaped the States.  It is foolish to think we are never going to face trouble forever.

Wendell Berry discussed in his book ‘The Unsettling of America’ 31 years ago that food was too necessary to be used as a weapon.  People have ignored that concept for three decades because – WE have food on the grocery shelves and it can’t be that bad.

Society looked the other way as dairy farmers fought to hang on to herds of a couple hundred cows and maintain their way of life.  It looked the other way again when small hog farmers were buried under 9 cent hogs, a price that meant ham alone brought twice what the whole pig cost.  Some farmers gave hogs away as it would cost them to sell or keep them.

This eliminated many alternatives for our food.  While we see now that with oil those who have it can, will, and do dictate the price folk don’t see the flashing neon sign that our food supply is in the same situation.  Indeed, customers are for the most part so ignorant of it that they continue to buy on cost, generating cash for the few of company entities that hold the bulk of our survival food storage.

Archer Daniels Midland – ADM – bills itself as’ supermarket to the world’ and had a 67% increase in profits while Cargill – resented by little farmers around the world – had an 86% profit increase.

Most purchasers haven’t any idea what some ingredients in their products truly are.
for example, sorbitol is a hydrogenated sugar alcohol derived from corn, which is utilized in sugarless gums and candy, as well as being an ingredient in polyurethane.

As one of the largest processors of oil seed, ADM produces soybean powder and meal for human and animal use.  Extracted from that is a crude oil used not only for edible oils, vegetable oils and lecithin, but also for commercial oil, biodiesel, and polymers.

Cargill – enjoying record profits – has its hands in baked products, cereals, drinks from alcohol to soft drinks to fruit drinks, candy and chocolate, dairy, health and organic ( think sports drinks, vitamins ), meat and chickens, pharmaceuticals, prepared foods ( seasonings, jams/jellies, side and main dish mixes, puddings, sauces and plenty more ) and snack foods.  You won’t see ‘Cargill’ on grocery store shelves overtly labeled just like you won’t see the other majority players, but it’s there and much of what you eat comes from them.

Rest guaranteed when it comes to maintaining those record profits that they’ll have that in mind before those too poor to buy their foods.  Cotton farmers in India, pushed out by Monsanto cotton, have committed suicide at the possibility of losing their livelihood, and farmers in numerous other {nation~countrie~state}s do not even desire them as neighbors.  If it comes to their finances or yours – theirs will take precedence.  Monsanto and Cargill each own half of a company that markets genetically modified foods globally.

Monsanto eagerly pushes farmers into courtrooms where a little farmer has no possibility of winning, whether or not they’ve ever planted their seed.  One farmer was held accountable for planting their genetic altered seed on land he didn’t even own – which made no difference in the courtroom.  Absolute power corrupts fully is an acceptable adage to describe what’s happening.

With these companies holding the overwhelming majority of our food supply what occurs when they raise prices and demand more profits?  We will do without fuel – but we will not do without food.  Unfortunately, the headlights are approaching and American purchasers don’t have any idea to move off the road.

Corporate America exists for one thing – Cash.  They’d give a token amount for charities but profit comes before anything.  Lower costs drive the ‘reasons’ for GMO products, which the general public don’t need to eat and farmers don’t want near their fields.

If your checkbook is drained and they are showing record profits do you suspect they’ll barter with you as little farmers will?  Do you think they’ll feel sorry and say ‘here’s groceries until you get on your feet?  Not going to occur – it cuts into their profit.  Farmers have seen it – patrons don’t and are not aware of it.
