Ever Considered Building A Hydroponic Growing System?

Wouldn’t it be nice to produce delicious fruits and vegetables all year round without worrying about droughts or floods? Good news, you can, and it’s a lot cheaper than you may think. Almost sounds too good to be true, I know! This is where hydroponics comes into the equation. Instead of growing plants in soil, hydroponics uses a solution, traditionally water, packed with nutrients. This allows the plants to extract nutrients and more efficient manner than it can from soil.

Basics of A Hydroponics System

A hydroponics growing system consists of a reservoir, a light, and air pump to circulate oxygen in the solution, and that’s pretty much it. Except for the seeds you wish to plant. Since your plants are grown in a solution and not soil, the need for pesticides and weed killer is not necessary, thus reducing your gardening efforts. This means less chemicals are polluting our atmosphere, thus decreasing your carbon footprint. The nutrient solution in a hydroponic growing system manily consists of a combination of potassium phosphate, magnesium sulphate, calcium nitrate and potasium nitrate. These must be completely dissolved in the solution, traditionally water, before being circulated through the plants’ roots.

How You Can Control The Weather

Another beauty of hydroponic growing systems is the environment in which it grows in. As it grows indoors, you can control the exact temperature that is required to grow your plants at their optimum.  This is how you can grow whatever you want during any part of the year, no matter what season it is.

Environmental Benefits

In addition to the ability to control the growing environment, there are also environmental benefits to using a hydroponic growing systemFirstly, a hydroponic growing system can produce a larger crop in a considerably smaller area than traditional farming, which means natural resources can be preserved. Another great feature of a hydroponic growing system is that you can actually grow the plants in a vertical fashion, rather than horizontally, allowing you to grow many more plants in a much smaller area. Building a hydroponics system can easily be done with recycled plastic buckets. Bigger systems sometimes recycle their water, as a result less water is required throughout the growing process. Indoor Hydroponics is such a great alternative to growing plants outside in soil, it’s clean, simple and extremely easy to start up.
