Gov. Charlie Crist on Monday signed the bill that that opens the door for unemployed Floridians to receive up to 20 weeks more of ~unemployment benefits from the Florida Unemployment Office.

The bill utilizes federal money to pay claims for individuals who’ve exhausted all other benefits and raises the maximum number of weeks anybody can collect in Florida from 79 to 99. Numerous other states currently allow people to collect advantages for up to ninety nine weeks.

The Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation — the office that manages florida unemployment benefits — mentioned it is going to get started taking application for that extended benefits online beginning Wednesday.

In a statement, Crist said the cash will “provide a substantial impact to Florida’s economy, infusing millions of dollars to our local communities.”

Officials estimate about 107,000 Floridians will be eligible for payments under the program. The law allows the state to accept about $128 million in advantages.

Those who may be qualify for that payments include:

– Individuals who earlier received extended benefits and still have an Eb entitlement. They  could get up to twenty weeks — which would certainly consist of weeks previously paid.

– People who’ve exhausted or will exhaust all their benefits before June 5 could get as much as 14 additional weeks of benefits.

The law doesn’t supply advantages for claims remaining following June 5.

1.  Can I file a claim?

Any person who is currently laid-off or partially unemployed can file a claim.  Two determinations must be created on a state to determine eligibility.  The first determination will advise the individual if you have had sufficient work and earnings in Florida to establish a monetarily qualified claim.  A monetarily qualified claim doesn’t necessarily mean which you are qualified to obtain advantages.  The second determination pertains to the separation from the final or possibly next to the final employer.  The reason for separation from the last employer, possibly the following towards the final employer and other eligibility needs must be examined to figure out if you are eligible to obtain advantages. This second determination won’t be issued until the claim is filed and also the claimant has really certified for weeks of unemployment.

2.  What are the general eligibility requirements to obtain unemployment compensation benefits?

To identify a monetarily qualified unemployment compensation claim, an individual must have been employed and earned wages throughout the first four quarters from the previous five completed quarters prior to filing a state.  This time period of time is known as the “base time period.”   The base time period changes each and every three months at the commencing of every new quarter starting in January, April, July and October.

To qualify monetarily, an individual must seek help at the florida unemployment office or :

·    Have been paid wages in two or more calendar quarters in the base time period;

·    Have total base period wages of at least 1-1/2 times the wages in the quarter obtaining top earnings;

·    Have at least $3,400 total wages within the base period.

This calculation is instantly done at the time you file your claim.
