Home Office Lighting to Enhance Productivity

In the last few years, the American Institute of Architects realized that the home office has become the most prevalent “extra” room being added in new living quarters. This is to some extent due to telecommuting, yet sometimes it is to accommodate after-work emailing or just keeping the web portals in a central spot and out of the basement. A nice type to check out are the various Solar Security Lights.

A home office might be a simple desk slipped into the family room, or a one whole room with a full compliment of office equipment. The issue that both extremes have in common, though, is lighting requirements which are distinctive from the remainder of the home. Home office lighting fulfills the double purpose of contributing to a comfortable work environment and offering useful task lighting for the activities you plan to accomplish there. Also, be sure not to miss the various Solar Post Light.

Once you settle on your desks, tables and equipment, you’ll have a chance to evaluate both sunshine and artificial illumination. The most important consideration in today’s home office is the placement of windows compared to the orientation of the computer monitor. HavingUsing daylight for your work surface is always appreciated, yet you don’t appreciate a shine on the monitor. Locating the monitor in front of the window might be the ideal solution, but often that really isn’t possible. In these circumstances, curtains can be a second-best fix. Don’t forget to look at the different kinds of Solar Post Security Lights.

The workspace will need a good general lighting source, supplemented by examples of task lighting. There should be suitable light in the space for accomplishing the job at hand, although the room will not need to be 100% lit constantly. A fluorescent ceiling lamp could be a good basic light, although spot or track lighting could be more efficient at distributing the light to cover a larger room. The task lighting near the desk must not glare on the monitor, and below-the-shelf lighting or well-positioned lamps will reduce glare on other work surfaces.

Home office lighting is not only about the work stations, by the way. Accent lighting may be used to spotlight decorative paintings or certificates.  If you are already using track lighting for the general purpose lighting, these lamps can even be employed for accent lighting. If not, then recessed canister lights or uplights could be carefully aimed throughout the room.

Home offices could be welcoming and productive rooms in any living quarters, or extensions of the place you don’t want to be. Since you are actually in charge of your home office, fortunately, you may make the appropriate design and lighting selections for the room. This is going to make sure that your home office is a calm place to be and a convenient place to work – which is the whole intention of home offices.
