Make sure that the lawn is not being shaded by any shrub or tree, since this can result in bald patches. Planting additional grass without taking remedial actions may not be a good idea.
You should not think that lawn care is an exceedingly difficult process. If you persistently keep a tab on various facets of the lawn like the plants, the grass, trees around, the turf, the borders etc, the process would become easier. The feeding process, watering, protection from being trampled by slipshod people, impedance of pest and weed expansion etc need sufficient attention from your part.
