Mayan Calendar 2012 – Does it Really Predict the End of the World?
You might have heard about the Mayan prophecy that claims that the world is going to end on 21st December 2012. Research tells us that The Mayans studied the sky and started following their own calendar in 355 B.C. Because they were well-read and had a way with numbers, they could determine the exact moment when the stars would move from one location to the other. After further studies, they came to the conclusion that because the Earth never stops rotating, these movements tend to change every 5,125 years.
During such a cycle, an intersection of intergalactic surfaces takes place and a solstice occurs. The Mayan Prophecy of 2012 states that this intersection will take place and a brand new cycle will be initiated. To be more precise and make it easier to understand for everyone: According to the Mayans the world as we know it will end on 21st december 2012 and a new one will become into being. The good news is that most scholars are sure that the Mayan prophecy is not true and nothing but vague speculations. There are others saying that the Mayans could not come to a concrete conclusion, because they were not even able to see the end of their own civilization.
Undoubtfully, the Mayans were a intelligent civilization, who had a comprehensive knowledge on astronomy, however, their thought process was extremely basic and primitive and they strongly supported the idea of human sacrifice.
As a consequence, if we really believe that the Mayan prophecy 2012 is accurate, we will also have to accept certain beliefs that the tribe garnered. Firstly, the world was created in 3114 B.C., secondly, the sun, which is also the divine force that controls us, will continue to stay alive only if human sacrifice is carried out and thirdly, that our destiny lies in the stars. Logic as well as The Bible tells us that nobody can know when the world will end and frankly, that makes a lot of sense.
Nevertheless, the thought of a 2012end of the world is quite disturbing. I am going to keep my fingers crossed and hope that it is all just nonsense and we will all be able to breathe a sigh of relief and spend a nice Christmas season with our families 2012.
