It has been said that all good things must come to an end, and this is especially true of our summer gardens. Most plants will not survive the cold, frosty days of winter, which is why harvesting and preserving our crops becomes imperative as the cold weather begins to loom. This is true also of our fresh herb plants, but do not wait till there is a nip in the air to start cropping this crop. When herbs are dried correctly, they can bring you months of delicious flavours thru the fall and winter.

The ideal time to harvest your fresh herb plants is previous to ripening, which should frequently happen when the weather starts to cool in the decline. cropping in late summer will ensure the absolute best flavour and freshness to your herbs, but you may crop across the growing season to excite extra expansion and get a start on your stock. Cut your stems in the mid-morning hours when possible, since the morning dew has dried out by then but the fresh herb plants have not yet begun to wilt in the afternoon sun.

The air drying process works best with fresh herb plants possessing a lower moisture content like oregano, summer tasty, thyme, rosemary and dill. Herbs with a higher moisture content will dry better employing a dehydrator or microwave. To air dry fresh herb plants, cut the stems and remove any unhealthy leaves. If it is necessary, rinse your stems with some cool water, and pat dry completely. Drying wet herb stems will only result in moldy leaves that are useless. Bundle together in batches of four to six stems, and hold them together with a rubber band or piece of string. Bear in mind that the stems will shrink as they dry so you’ll need to check them occasionally and retighten as needed.

Once your herbs are bundled, place your bunches the other way up into brown paper bags that have a bunch of holes punched in them and are labeled with the sort of fresh herb plant on the front. Tie the bags closed and hang them up in a warm, ethereal room and check them each week or 2. Once your fresh herb plants are adequately dried, store your herbs in airtight boxes like canning jars or Ziploc bags. Keep the containers away from direct sunlight and use within one year.

Using this process for drying and protecting your fresh herb plants, you’ll be in a position to enjoy the savoury scent and flavour of home grown herbs year round. Satisfied harvest!

Once you’ve set your mind on gardening, you should decide on the type of garden before anything else. There are all sorts of gardens according to style and purpose, and it is essential for you to have as clear an image as possible of the one you want. Depending on their purpose, a brief list of the major types of gardens would include flower, vegetable, herb and formal gardens.

You can’t grow any type of garden anywhere you like. The choice of plants hugely depends on location and climate, which are two things that you need to consider before starting work on your garden.

1. The type of weather is one issue you cannot dismiss when it comes to what you can grow in your garden. Therefore, if you live in a place like Canada, where you have more days of cold weather, you can forget all about growing tropical plants. Nonetheless, there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to create an enjoyable garden using plants that are already acclimated to your area.

2. Maintenance: think about how much time you want to spend in your garden. For instance, annuals have to be replanted every year, which allows you to create a new one every year. The downside to having this type of plants, however, is that they require a lot of careful maintenance, resulting in more time spent in the garden.

3. Soil: it’s important to make sure that the soil is healthy. The healthier the soil is, the stronger the plants will be. Also they’ll be less susceptible to plant diseases. There are simple ways to test the soil. For example, vegetables grow best in crumbly soil.

4. Space: check out the space that you have for gardening, this will help you decide what you should plant and where it should be planted. In addition, to that think about the logistics. You might want to consider the location of the flower-beds in relation to your water sources, or if there are any areas in your garden bound to receive no sunlight at all, or, on the contrary, which spots will enjoy sunlight all through the day. It may help to sketch your idea. If you want excellent results, you can obtain them; but not without meticulous planning and preparation.

5. First and foremost, a garden should be able to please the eye. Everything in your garden, from plants to other sorts of ornaments, should be arranged in a harmonious manner, so that the general picture is one of loveliness. Consider how it’ll look from various angles and vantages such as from the house, windows and doors.

6. As there are so many variations and combinations, choosing the colors for your garden is the fun part. Knowing beforehand what color scheme you are going to use will give you a good perspective on the appearance of your future garden. However, you really can’t go wrong with any colors you should choose. You might not go for an elaborate design and thus may choose cool or warm nuances, or simply just one color all-around.

Have questions about 300w led grow light and led grow light? Get the answers.

Have you given any care to your ornamental grass yet this year? I don’t mean your lawn, as the middle of March is the time to start thinking about your this . I’m actually talking about ornamental grasses.

Over the past decade , ornamental grasses have become massively popular in Britain . From humble sedges (such as i.e. Carex Frosted Curls ) and Oat Grass (Helictotrichon) to the major grasses like pampas grass (Cortaderia), you will normally find at least one if not a batch of grasses in the average garden. Gardeners have realized that carefully picked grasses are a tremendous way to add structure and colour to gardens without a great deal of ongoing maintenance .

Other benefits of popular ornamental grasses are :

- Resistance to pests and diseases.
- Hardiness to frost & cold weather
- Fast growth
- Adaptability to a wide range of soil types
- Their ability to provide movement

But probably the biggest incentive for any gardener, especially a thrifty one, is the fact that ornamental grasses can be divided to produce more plants . No need to grow from seed, just divide and multiply .

Grasses from cool climates include Carex, Festuca, Helictotrichon, Stipa, Chasmanthium, Deschampsia, Calamagrostis, Hakonechloa, and Molinia. Dividing these grasses every three years not only provides you with free plants, but prevents overcrowding.

How to divide ornamental grasses
Carry out all division on a damp day with damp soil and no strong winds. This is because your first job is to carefully dig up the grass clump, exposing it to the air.

Small, soft rooted grasses can be pulled apart simply by using your hands. If the clump is tough use two garden forks inserted back to back in the middle of the cluster, then lever them apart. On a very tough root you may even have to chop with a sharp spade .

Make sure each division has several healthy buds or shoots and a reasonable amount of root attached. Select larger divisions (12.5cm/5in or larger) for replanting throughout your garden. You should use a half topsoil and half compost back-fill mix for transplanting.

Your smaller divisions can be potted up for growing on, then planting out later. Water the transplant heavily and ensure you water well for its first year.

Other Grasses including Cortaderia, Miscanthus, Phalaris, Arundo, Imperata, Panicum, Pennisetum and Spartina. Grasses from warm climates are divided in the exact same manner as the cool climate grasses. However, extreme care must be exercised when handling pampas grass (Cortaderia selloana) as it has really -sharp leaves.

Summer won’t be around forever and especially in some parts of the world winter may be setting in already. There will come a time that you no longer need your ceiling fan and desk fan you will instead be looking to do the opposite of these devices. It’s a shame when that sun goes away and you can no longer lounge around outside without wearing thick clothing. When the cold weather starts to set in most people head for the comfort of inside and won’t venture outdoors unless they have to.

If you don’t want to spend all your time inside then it might be worth investing in patio heaters. You can use a patio heater to make an area of your garden that isn’t bitterly cold the area that will be heated all depends on the size of the patio heaters dome. Having something to keep you warm is nicer than you think and you will find it much easier to spend time outdoors even when it does get a little colder.

Most patio heaters today are made from stainless steel and use a burner which burns either propane or LPG. The heater works by directing the flame produced onto a metallic surface which then distributes the heat over as wide an area as possible. The common patio heaters have just a single dome although there a models which come equipped with upto three domes. 3 domed heater of course cost more but have the added benefit of being able to distribute heat over a wider area.

Patio heaters are produced to the toughest safety standards and all heaters that you can buy today come with safety switches in case the device is tipped over. Patio heaters will also guard against gas leaks by shutting themselves down in the event that gas is detected.

Using the internet you will be able to view a much larger range of heaters and models than in any stores.

One of the most popular vegetables around the world is tomatoes. They are used in a myriad of dishes and salads. Growing your own tomatoes can greatly increase your use of them plus it gives you confidence in the quality of the vegetable you are serving your family. In order to keep from having more tomatoes then you know what to do with though most gardeners will stagger their plantings or grow varities that will ripen at different times so that they will be harvesting ripe tomatoes all summer long.

You can avoid many of the problems associated with a tomato garden simply by practicing good maintenance in your garden. A few of the most common tomato growing problems and the ways to avoid them follow.

Phosphorous deficiency ranks as one of the most common problems. Our soil is loaded with phosphorus, but if you plant too early the coolness of the ground won’t allow the phosphorus to properly get to your plants. You can use plastic mulch to help warm up the ground around your tomato plants.

Another problem can be caused by stink bugs. Stink bugs will feed on your plants causing spots and internal damage. The best way to control them is by keeping your garden clean, keep all weeds out of your garden so the bugs can’t over-winter in the trash.

Every tomato gardener has experienced blossom end rot at somtime or the other, it occurs from the combination of cold weather or high heat when the tomatoes are blooming, improper watering can also bring the problem on. Blossom end rot is caused by a calcium deficiency in the plant brought on by any of the previous situations. Avoid this problem by fertilizing and watering at the proper times.

Another common problem is root rot. The cause of root rot is a fungus that grows as a result of over-watering the tomato plant. To control this problem rotate your tomatoes, water them at the correct time and improve your soil so it drains well. Do not grow tomatoes in the same spot for more than three years to avoid root rot.

These tomato growing problems are all easily avoidable by proper maintenance of your garden, proper watering and not planting too early in the season.

Building a chicken coop completely on your own is a real challenge. Unfortunately, it is not simple. If you already tried it once before, you will agree that it is challenging, especially if you have no idea where to start. There are some tips that you need to keep in mind if you are building chicken coops. Following my tips will help you succeed and build a wonderful chicken coop within some days.

The first and most important thing is that you should have a good, easy to follow chicken coop plan. There are some plans that you can find online that include parts of the chicken house.A chicken coop plan would also give you the list of the materials you need in building chicken coops.

You can keep your chicken healthy by providing them a spacious place to live. The minimum size requirement is 4 sq. per chicken. Keep in mind that if your coop is too small your hens will get sick. Your birds really need to feel comfortable so that they will lay eggs. In addition the material is quite important. Having quality materials would create an impact on the overall look of the chicken coop. Another benefit of using high quality material is that it will withstand any climatic change

Your coop also has to have proper ventilation. This is important, especially during the summer months. Also make sure that the chickens are warm during the cold weather. You can do this by insulating the walls. Dont forget to add windows and a door. This will help making cleaning the coop easier and is also important for proper ventilation.

Lastly, you’re going to want to build a little stand where you put the chicken waterers and feeders. I know from my own experience that there will be a huge mess soon if you put the food on the ground

Prebuilt coops are infamous for being expensive, and there’s really no need to buy one – when you can set your own one up at the fraction of the cost, in just a few hours.

It has been said that this summer is going to be a great one for all Europe. All though that sounds as good news for the north European countries where their populations complain of cold weather and lots of rain, reality for the Southern European countries is totally different as the temperature can rise well enough above 40 Celsius centigrades. Another thing to bear in mind about this summer is that during World Cup summers people tend to enjoy more staying at home and they travel less. Without any doubt that is not only a major sports event but also a social one, as it has a tremendous impact to so many people around the globe.

This is another reason that raises even higher the expectations of the forthcoming summer. It is going to be the first World Cup taking place in Africa and many sports and non-sports related people are expecting it with great anticipation. Who doesn’t really like the combination of a hot summer with a lot of football and social gatherings?. After that harsh and long cold winter all Europeans that were affected by recession are really hoping for a great summer.

The most typical summer scene the majority of the people have in their mind is about being with the best friends or family all around the TV set being completely absorbed by the football crowd’s noise coming out of those portable speakers. Kids will be running around playing with their summer toys, say a rc helicopter, while the grown ups will be pouring beer out of a beer dispenser. And for those who do not enjoy watching sports on television, there is a place by the barbecue.

Therefore we just need to wait until we find out whether the scientists are right in their forecasts or not. Until then let’s keep our fingers crossed!

Sometimes working in an office can mean you have rather dull scenery around you. If you work on the top floor of an office block in the city, chances are that looking out of the window and realising how high up you are will definitely not be on your day to day list of things to do. That’s why people like the idea of an artificial plant in the office these days, because it will add some instant colour and draw the eye. An artificial plant is a great way to brighten up any office space and knowing it is affordable and maintenance free instantly adds to the appeal.

Artificial plants have become very popular over recent years, with more people enjoying the benefits that artificial plants bring. No mess, no fuss and certainly no wilting, an artificial plant is the favoured office choice up and down the country. Some offices like the smaller plants they can dot around the place, whereas others like something larger and more eye-catching for when clients walk in. Real plants may seem like a good idea, but they can be a costly upkeep if you have to replace them regularly.

Of course, any artificial plant on sale these days look so lifelike that no-one in your company will be able to tell that it is fake. Its only when you get up close to them and inspect them in greater detail that you might realise they are not real, otherwise they are genuinely likely to fool many people into believing they are real. If its an ambience you’re looking to create though, an artificial plant will look the perfect part.

Something else worth considering is the feel good factor with plants. In terms of lifting spirits when the cold, miserable weather arrives, artificial plants really can to do the trick when they are sitting pretty in an office space. There are some offices that like to spread their artificial plants around, so that each workstation can benefit from them. Other companies prefer an artificial plant that can stand in the corner of a room and look good for when clients come in. If you do this, you can expect clients to comment on how attractive the plants look, at the same time most likely unaware that they are artificial.

If you have an office that needs a splash of colour, consider an artificial plant to make a difference.

Greenhouse gardening allows for the cultivation of vegetables, ornamental plants and flowers that cannot be grown outside because of the climate conditions. To many enthusiasts green house gardening is a dream they hope to turn into reality one day. Here are the most general lines that define this occupation.

1.By greenhouse we refer to a plastic or glass chamber used for the cultivation of plants, which lets the sunlight go in, and which provides a warm environment as compared to outside temperatures. Green house gardening involves a very large number of activities; hence the reputation for being challenging.

2.Regular beds, hanging baskets or containers can be extensively used for green house gardening purposes. Whether the facility is lucrative or decorative, the size matters very little. The equipment that is now available should enable the hobby or professional gardener to make the appropriate choices for cultivating all sorts of flowers, plants, fruit trees or vegetables all year round.

3.Greenhouse gardening has many objectives. Maintaining the productive nature of seasonal corps all year round is a major achievement and many gardeners aim at it. Others just want to cultivate plants that are sensitive to the cold weather or they try to get good seeds. And finally, some make a hobby out of the cultivation and display of rare plants.

There are three types of greenhouse gardening that can be used to grow an herb garden or any other type of gardening and will vary depending on the temperature of the environment.

A cheap method is cold green house gardening. It works fine in summer time as the heat trapped inside the chamber accelerates the growth of the plants. Too much humidity could nevertheless be detrimental for plants.

A more popular form of gardening here is cool green house gardening. When a heating system is used, a steadier temperature is preserved inside. Many plants are thus capable to resist throughout winter without any inconvenience. The temperature inside is around 45F

Warm green house gardening is conducted at temperatures of 55F or higher and it is usually specific to the cultivation of exotic plants, fruits and vegetables. Warm greenhouses are more specialized and they are generally used in professional gardening.

Lots of other features can be identified for the above mentioned categories but they should be studied in particular with all the issues that derive from them.

Crime is on the up again because of the recession and one such crime which has become more common these days is heating oil theft. Cold weather periods is usually the time when this type of crime occurs. Because the price of oil normally goes up when the weather is colder due to increased demand for it, oil thefts rise at this time.

Oil that is stolen by these criminals is quite often for their own use or it is sold on in order for the thieves to make some money so it is a very popular form of crime. With the potential to make a lot of money especially when times are tough for a lot of people financially, it’s no wonder this crime is on the up.

Another reason why this type of theft has become so popular with thieves is because oil tanks are usually situated on the homeowner’s property away from the house. The tank can be reached and broken into without anyone in the house ever being aware of this fact. That’s what makes it so easy for the thieves to get away with this. One of the most common times for these crimes to be committed is in the immediate aftermath of an oil delivery. The main reason for waiting for this time is the fact that there is more oil to steal and taking even a good amount of oil will still mean that the homeowner should not notice for a while especially if he has a tank full of oil.

This type of crime is becoming more widely known and people are on the lookout now. There are a number of precautions that people are taking in order to prevent them becoming victims of this crime. One of the best ways to deter thieves and to prevent them from taking your oil is to enclose your tank inside a cage which is locked. This can prevent the criminals from being able to get to the oil tank and siphoning off your oil. But being extra vigilant will also help.

Getting the home heated up during winter can be very expensive. Gas and electricity are very expensive today, with no signs of prices coming down. Clever people are switching to heating oil as a fuel though. When they do they always need their tanks filled with the cheapest heating oil ensuring they can always heat their home in winter. Heating oil suppliers are the people tasked with keeping home oil tanks full. Heating oil suppliers are found countrywide and can, as an example, supply heating oil Ely.
